UNIDEE IN PROGRESS 2007

The four month residency at Cittadellarte from July to October facilitates the exploration of the relationship between art and society. It promotes investigation into the methods of creative intervention and assists in realizing projects influencing responsible transformation in society.
Saturday 27 October 2007, starting at 5:00 pm., the studio of UNIDEE – University of Ideas opens to the public. The residents will present to visitors their ongoing projects and the culmination of their time at the foundation.
Since July 4th, 17 artists and researchers from all over the world have shared space, ideas, knowledge, and projects working along side the local context in their development. The experience for the residents was informed by the encounters between diverse fields from architecture to economy, visual art to music, and literature to design. In the development of group or individual projects the residents engaged a number of social issues and creative solutions. Coming from all over the world they have shared ideas, knowledge, and projects while at the same time working in the local context to develop their artistic practice.
During the months of UNIDEE, the residents had the opportunity to draw inspiration from a program of meetings focused on methodologies of intervention. The heads of the various offices of Cittadellarte which are made up of experts in economy, communication, and business led workshops and communal discussions all under the artistic direction of Michelangelo Pistoletto.

CITTADEL-ARTist Lecture Series 2007: Roman Dziadkiewicz

“Kidnapping a Curator”, Video Still, 2004

Roman Dziadkiewicz

October 21, 2007

Lecture: Dictionary of Participatotory Strategies
Sunday, October 21, Pistoletto Performance Theater, 18.00

Roman Dziadkiewicz (1972) is an artist and co-founder/leader of the SAOZ Association (1999-2002) and 36.6foundation. He Conducts long-term studies and workshop projects bordering on artistic practices, social investigations, curatorial strategies and testing of forms of participations. Dziadkiewicz is Interested in the processes of the entanglement of art and creative processes in political and cultural contexts, the disintegration/disappearance of a work of art and the reconstruction and redefinintion of historical and multicultural traditions.
The transfiguration of physical spaces and cultural moments in Grimberg’s work produces uneasy performances of absence that question the meaning of memory, place, and attachment. The result is the realignment and play of the structure of fiction and space itself in a psychologically fractured world, in which the connection between secure meanings and official narratives is often distorted or lost.
Dziadkiewicz has realised a number of workshops, lectures and educational projects, e.g. at The Hungarian Art University (2007), The Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow (2006), The Cleveland Institut of Art (2005), Technical University in Krakow (2007) and within World Social Forum Mumbay (2004). The author and editor of publications (poems, essays, visual essays) e.g. Tissues (1996), Group Think or Modern Masters (in: Zniewolony Umysl 2, 2006), Agora-Solidarnosc-SFX-Creative Commons-Publicznosc (2005). Selected art realisations: Imhibition (National Museum Krakow, 2005-2007), Robinson Crusoe or Stranger than Paradise (Spaces Gallery, Cleveland 2005), Luminescences/Shadows of our Forgotten Ancestors (CCA Kiev, Ukraine & Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien, Berlin 2006), Books/Apperception (Rauma Biennale 2006).

CITTADEL-ARTist Lecture Series 2007: Eiko Grimberg

Eiko Grimberg

Fri, October 12, 2007

Studio Visits: TBA

Eiko Grimberg is a Berlin-based artist working in video and photography. His work shifts and detaches images and stories from their role as signifiers of cohesive histories. In Grimberg’s video of a deserted Wall Street in Post 9/11 New York (The Years to Come, 2005), the space of the image is folded into a mismatched historical narrative about a similar but changed series of events, and produces a sensation of dislocated anxiety.
Eiko Grimberg received his MFA from the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig (HGB) in 2003 and is assistant professor at HGB.

Reinstated UNIDEE

Michelangelo Pistoletto, Woollen – The Reinstated Apple (2007), visible at Casa Zegna, Trivero (Biella) – Italy

«The Reinstated Apple is a major emblem of the reconciliation between nature and artifice represented by the new myth of the Third Paradise. According to tradition, the bite out of the apple represents man’s detachment from nature. The Reinstated Apple, on the other hand, is a symbol of a re-conjunction of the artificial and natural spheres. Wool, which in this work gives shape to the apple, is a continually renewable natural element, it is the undressing of an animal to dress humans – to the benefit of both».

TRIALOGO – Instructions for an intensive dialogue

«For the Trialogo Festival Marthe Van Dessel initiated a project based on creating a digital game score. The basic idea was to add a visual dimension to the event, a world music experimental concert. The digital media came to augment this performance and to enhance its interaction with the public. The whole creative process came to be a dialogue, a collaboration between sound and image, in a larger context of communication between cultures, resulting in a experimental creative event. How can we create a dialogue between people coming from so different parts of the world, with so different backgrounds? Does the idea of creating a dialogue means peace? And if so, might dialogue be also fundamental for peace?»

TRIALOGO Festival at Cittadellarte and Milan

UNIDEE residents take part to the second concert of TRIALOGO Festival, on Saturday, July 14th at Cittadellarte and to the third appointment of the event, on stage on Monday, July 16th in Milan’s Teatro Franco Parenti.
TRIALOGO is a project by Israeli music player and composer Yuval Avital , focused on building cultural bridges using music as a poweful connection tool between different backgrounds.

UNIDEE artists transform the concert in a multi-media artistic experience, with video projections, installations and performances.

Read the TRIALOGO II press release (PDF document, Italian only).
A multi-media documentation of the two events will be soon available on this blog.
