editorial
The 2007 edition of UNIDEE in Residence closes after four months of intense professional, social, and creative effort.
This year the 17 young artists have flooded Cittadellarte with their energy and their vitality. Over these past months, they have investigated and attempted to engage the local scene of Biella with their suggestions and input translated through artistic works. This has been the basis of a formative experience and representative of this year’s residency.
Many of them have filtered their experience in a subjective manner, informed by their cultural background and personal sensibility. The interaction with the social fabric of the territory has represented the starting point for instigating a collaboration on projects with great vivacity.
The collaborative component since the inception has always been one of the pivotal aspects of UNIDEE in Residence, always maintaining an emphasis on group projects. In 2007, this focus on collaboration was instilled in Uni-topia a program of encounters, discussion, screening, and lectures all open to the public founded and run by the residents. There were many other cases of collaboration, among which the participation of the UNIDEE residents in the Trialogo Festival of Music, the ‘emotional cuisine’ project which included staff of the Restaurant and Cittadellarte, and workshops organized with disabled people from the association After Us.
With the ‘open studio’ of UNIDEE in Progress concludes a chapter, but its name is not casually chosen as it simultaneously opens another. The young residents of University of Ideas will continue to work on projects for the creative activation of social responsible transformation promoted by Cittadellarte. For example, during 2008 artistic events will be organized in the countries of Eastern Europe with the support and contribution of Unicredit.
In the name of all of the staff of UNIDEE I would like to thank all of those that have collaborated with the residents, from official partners to collaborators both inside and out Cittadellarte, which together have shared something special.
